This guide is here to support you in thinking through and gently preparing for your pet’s end-of-life care. While we can make plans, death does not always unfold the way we expect. There may be moments that feel sudden, uncertain, or outside of what we envisioned. Because of this, I invite you to approach this document with both a best-case scenario and a backup plan in mind.

And what might you want in place if things shift quickly?
Taking time to reflect on both can bring a sense of steadiness and clarity, even in the unknown. This is also an opportunity to begin conversations with your veterinarian. You might ask about:
End-of-life care options
At-home support or referrals
Aftercare services
Having these conversations ahead of time can help you feel more resourced and supported, so that when the time comes, you can focus on being present with your pet.
Move through this document at your own pace. There is no right or wrong way to do this, only what feels aligned for you and your beloved companion.
Open Grounding Ritual
Before you begin, take a moment to arrive. Place one hand on your heart and one on your body. Take a slow breath in… and a gentle breath out. Call in the presence of your pet, in whatever way feels right. You may feel emotion arise, this is welcome here. This is not about preparing for loss. This is about honoring love, connection, and the life you share. This guide is here to support you in creating clarity around your pet’s end-of-life wishes. Having these pieces in place can bring a sense of peace, allowing you to be fully present when the time comes.
